New Committee Line Up For WWFC

Woodlands Wellington Football Club announces changes in Executive Committee as Francis Gomez completes his term of office as Chairman of the club on 30 November 2007.

Hon Secretary Alex Louis:
" On behalf of WWFC's Executive Committee, Players, Coaches and Fans, I would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to Francis Gomez who undoubtedly led the club into an era where WWFC is highly regarded as a team consistently challenging for local honours in the S-League.

He must be credited with leading the club to its first major trophy in its history, winning the SingTel League Cup this year.

Francis's strong corporate experience has played a vital role in enhancing and strengthening the management system at the Club. Importantly, Francis must be accorded due credit for ensuring financial stability to the club. We wish him well in his future endeavours.

The club also extends its heartfelt thanks to SembCorp for its sponsorship over the years and looks forward to it's continued Sponsorship in 2008.

The club will endeavour to do its best to make their investment and trust in WWFC worthwhile."

Francis joined the management of WWFC as Committee Member in 2001 when SembCorp Power & Gas sponsored WWFC. He then rose to assume the post of Deputy Chairman in 2004 and Chairman from 2006.

Always passionate about the sport, Francis will always be credited with several "firsts" for WWFC.

Top of the list was the SembCorp Power & Gas Challenge in 2003 where WWFC invited Selangor, Penang and Kedah for a pre season tournament in Singapore that turned out to be a resounding success.

Never was such a tournament featuring the traditional powerhouses of Malaysian football had been organised before by a S-League club.

Taking over from 1 December 2007 is Jayadev Unnithan, PBM, who served as Chairman during the 2005 S-League season. A senior grassroots leader in Woodlands CCC, Jayadev has extensive experience in grassroots activities that will allow WWFC to engage the community in various events to position the club as one for the community.

Also on board the revamp management committee is Tang Weng Fei, a former Chairman of the club. He will be the Club Advisor, adding more valuable experience to the management team. Tang was also the former President of the SAAA (now SAA).

The Management Committee will carry out its functions and operations through various proactive sub-committees constituted and tasked to oversee vital areas of Club Management, namely: Team Management, Community Outreach, Clubhouse / Fan Club Management, Fund Raising and Discipline.

Incoming Chairman Jayadev :

" Financial stability, creative community outreach in engaging fans and residents in the North, and of course, moulding a team capable of continued pursuits of honours will be top billing for 2008. No one sector will be compromised for another. All will share equal time and efforts in ensuring success. I am pleased to have a team with much experience and also youth, which is important. I must personally extend my appreciation to Francis Gomez, Members of the Previous Executive Committee and Volunteers for their invaluable services. I wish to thank Tang Weng Fei for accepting the position of Club Advisor. We cannot discount such experience and his presence will enhance the team in all aspects of football club management. I certainly look forward in continuing the good work."
